In 2011, I developed the Zoofari A-Z educational series for my son, Brantley. This design series includes my artwork, photography, layout, and design. The Zoofari series reflects our personality – fun and quirky wrapped in educational moments.
The series began as an online slideshow, helping Brantley identify animals. I soon decided to make the slideshow into a book we could share with friends and take on trips. This helped Brantley learn to spell, “Zebra begins with Z.”
When Brantley turned two, he moved into his new room. That is when I designed a poster.
At age 2.5 Brantley still uses flashcards. He has learned his colors, seasons and gained the ability to identify basic and complex objects using flashcards. So, the obvious next design concept was a Zoofari flashcard set.
As a mother, I love teaching Brantley using tools I enjoy. Pop-art is not for everyone. Yet, for those who think the old lady in “Goodnight Moon” is creepy and most first-word board books are cliché, the Zoofari series might be up their alley.
