Today was a holiday, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service to be precise.  Both my son and I had the day off, and I wanted to make the most of our time together.  So, I asked Brantley what he would like to do.   His response?  “Trains.”

Alright.  If he wants trains, I’ll have a day devoted to trains.

AGENDA: January 21, 2013

10:00 am: Leave home for the day

10:25 am:  Arrive at downtown Amtrak Station.  We watch as folks board train #80. The train honks the horn and heads out of town.

Train 80

11:00 am: Arrive at Pullen Park to ride the train.  Buy tickets & ride train.

11:20 am: Ride the Pullen Park train for a second time.

Pullen Park #1

11:35 am: Hightail it back down Western Blvd. to the Amtrak Station to watch the #75 train arrive.

11:45 am: We watch as folks board train #75.  The train honks the horn and heads out on the short 11 minute ride to Cary, NC.

Train 75

12:15 pm: Arrive back at Pullen Park to ride the train – for the third time.

Pullen Park #2

12:30 pm: Brantley pees on a public toilet for the first time! (no photo available 😉 )

1:00 pm: Lunch at The Pit (We sincerely miss you Ed Mitchell!)

2:15 pm: Home

While today was not my ideal agenda, Brantley had a blast.  Therefore, I had a blast.  Next trip we just might have to purchase Amtrak tickets and actually board the train.
