patience

Standard

Last night, before bed, I sat with my son looking out the window. Below is a transcript of the conversation. If he has taught me anything, it is patience.

B: Car
Mom: Yes, those are cars. How many cars do you see?
B: Car. One Car
Mom: Yes, that is correct. There is one car. What comes after one?
B: Two
Mom: Yes! Very good. Now, how many cars do you see?
B: Car
Mom: Are there two cars?
B: No
Mom: How many are there?
B: Car
Mom: Yes, those are cars. Can you count them with me?
B: Car. One. Eight. Nine.
Mom: Where is mommy’s car?
B: [he points]
Mom: Very good. That is one car. Where is daddy’s car?
B: [he points]
Mom: Yes, very good. Now, how many cars did you point to?
B: Cookie?
